NYC, Ground Zero, Statue of Liberty

We arrived Florida, NY on Thursday and checked into
Black Bear Campground which is 46 miles Northwest of Times Square.   We went on a guided tour on Friday.  Highlights of the tour included the Statue of Liberty,  Ground Zero, Theatre District, Wall Street, Times Square, Fifth Avenue, Rockefeller Center and much more.  I have wanted to visit Ground Zero for years.  It was very moving to see where our country was attacked and so many lost their lives.  We checked the weather and decided to head towards home today.

Plymouth Rock, MA, Cape Cod, Acadian National Park, Martha's Vineyard

Seeing Plymouth Rock and Cape Cod where the Mayflower Pilgrims disembarked was a great high light of our trip.  We saw two bibles that where brought over on the Mayflower.  The Cliffs and water were awesome in the Acadia National Park.   We had to ride a ferry from Cape Cod to Martha's  Vineyard.   One area is called Oak Bluff where there is a huge tabernacle started by the Methodists in the 1800's for religious services and community events in Oak Bluff and there were ginger bread cottages all around it.   Our trip goes on!!

Louisburg, NS, Cape Breton National Park, Peggy Cove, NS, Bar Harbor, Maine

Thursday  for dinner I had some of the best melt in your mouth sea food chowder and Boyd ate delicious haddock.   The  most magnificent view in Nova Scotia was the Cape Breton National Park drive- very steep cliffs that drop down to the ocean.    We visited the fishing village of Peggy's Cove today.  It has the most photographed  light house in Canada built in 1915 atop giant rocks.    Houses are perched along a narrow inlet and on wave- washed boulders facing the Atlantic.    Swiss Airline flight  111 Memorial was in the Peggy's Cove area in the Atlantic Ocean.   We  drove over the border into Maine yesterday (Sun) and it took us 9 hours from Peggy's  Cove.    We  had to have Maine lobster  and it was great.     We spent the night in Bar Harbor, Maine and plan to drive through the Acadia National  Park today.

Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia

Tues
We arrived in Nova Scotia yesterday (Monday).    We had to cross the Conferation bridge which was 11 miles long to get to Prince Edward Island.    The  island is beautiful and to big to see it all.   We did see the Anne of Green Gables area and I went to the Author's homeplace.   We took some photos of a French River fishing village on the water.  This evening we came back into Nova Scotia and have a wonderful camp site right on the Gulf of St Lawrence.  What an amazing place!

Vermont, Fort Ticonderoga, NY

Our trip into Vermont was a first for Boyd and I.   Bennington and Arlington were beautiful cities in the Catskills mountains of Vermont.   The people keep their lawns and gardens so neat.  Vermont was everything we imagined.  there were lots of fly fishing schools in this area.   The Battenkill River was our back yard night before last.   Yesterday we headed back to NY and crossed a ferry from Vermont into NY to visit Fort Ticonderoga.  This is a fort that the French built and the British took over twice.    It was neat to walk in the fort where George Washington and Ben Franklin once stood.  Last night we camped in Peru, NY..will travel on today to Montreal, Canada and continue to Nova Scotia.     We will turn our phones off close to the border, will be checking email and FB.

Cooperstown, NY, Baseball Hall of Fame

Our  highlight yesterday was to visit the Cooperstown, NY Baseball Hall of fame.  The game of baseball was actually based on the English game of rounders.  In 1845 Alexander Cartwright published a set of baseball rules for the knickerbocker club of New York, and his rules were widely adopted.   We saw exhibits, artifacts, awards and the library.   Last night, Wednesday, we stayed in a camp ground in Central Bridge, NY near Albany.  So far we have had beautiful weather but it is rainy today.  On to Vermont.
